SBS On Demand streams most content at Low (128kb/sec), Medium (512kb/sec), High (1MB/sec) and Very High (1.5MB/sec) bitrates. For Live Streams, we may also use an even higher (2.5MB/sec) bitrate.
Here's a guide to how much data is used per hour (a 60 minute video) at each bitrate:
- Low (128kb/sec): up to 100 MB
- Medium (512kb/sec): up to 250 MB
- High (1MB/sec): up to 500 MB
- Very High (1.5MB/sec): up to 700 MB
- Max (2.5MB/sec): up to 1,200 MB (live streams only)
Note that some platforms don't allow you to restrict your stream to a particular bitrate. If this is the case, you should assume the Very High (1.5MB/sec) bitrate data usage will apply unless you're watching a live stream.
You should take your Data Quota from your intenet service provider (ISP) or mobile carrier into consideration when streaming our videos. This is the amount of data that your ISP or mobile carrier allows you to download each month without incurring extra costs, usually expressed in GigaBytes (GB) or MegaBytes (MB). If you exceed your quota, you may need to pay extra costs or your internet speed might be slowed. We recommend that you confirm your data quota, and keep an eye on your usage at all times.
