Every match of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ — all 104 games—is being broadcast completely live, free, and exclusively on SBS (Channel 30), SBS VICELAND (Channel 31), and SBS On Demand.
Terrestrial TV (Antenna-Based Reception)
Antenna condition and alignment
The antenna still defines reception quality:
• Check that the antenna remains firmly mounted and has not shifted
• Confirm direction alignment toward the correct transmitter site. Please click here and check the
Antenna Setup Guide - for location reference
• Inspect cabling for corrosion, cracked housings, or possible water ingress
Many installations date back to early DTV deployments (circa 2003 onwards). A large number have never been re-aligned since commissioning. That longevity is impressive, but it also explains why reception issues tend to appear and increase suddenly during peak broadcast events.
Cabling and Antenna System integrity
Most terrestrial faults originate from the antenna, not at the broadcast tower.
- Inspect coaxial cables along their visible run
- Replace damaged or brittle sections
- Tighten loose connectors and wall plates
- Verify masthead amplifiers (if used) still receive power
Signal loss often gets blamed on “broadcast issues,” yet degraded cabling or oxidised connectors usually sit behind the problem. That misdiagnosis keeps repeating across households every major event.
Channel scan and tuning check
A full retune should be completed before the tournament window.
- Run a full channel scan, not a quick update
- Confirm correct channel mapping and service order
- Remove duplicate or outdated services if they appear
Viewers who skip rescanning and testing in preparation for the event, often discover missing or unstable channels at the worst possible time.
SBS reception test
A targeted check should be performed on services provided by the SBS, especially for viewers who do not normally use these channels.
- Tune directly to SBS HD (Channel 30) and SBS VICELAND (Channel 31)
- Let the signal run for a while without interruption
- Confirm stable video and audio
- Check subtitle function if used
Don't skip this step. Even if other channels are working, it doesn't always mean everything is set up correctly. A quick test before match day can help make sure you're ready when the action starts.
