What is Chromecast?
A Google Chromecast is a device which plugs into any television via a HDMI port. With a Google Chromecast device, you can "cast" or mirror content directly from your iOS or Android phone or tablet directly onto your TV screen.
The SBS On Demand Android and iOS apps are supported to cast with any of the following Chromecast devices:
Second Gen
Third Gen
Chromecast Ultra
Chromecast with Google TV and
Google TV Streamer
Note: Second Gen, Third Gen and Chromecast Ultra devices are no longer available for purchase. However, they are still supported by Google with ongoing software and security updates.

You will need to ensure that both your mobile or tablet device and Chromecast device are connected to the same network to successfully cast.
Casting is supported on both the iOS and Android versions of the SBS On Demand app.
iOS Devices
If you don't have the SBS On Demand app installed on your iOS device, then you can download it for free via the iOS Apps Store by following the instructions listed here: Download apps on your iPhone or iPad
Android Devices
Similarly, if you don’t have the SBS On Demand app on your Android device, then you can download it for free from the Play Store by following the instructions listed here: Download apps to your Android device
How do I cast the SBS On Demand app?
Once you've installed the SBS On Demand app on your device, all you have to do is open our app and tap on the little "cast" icon in the top right hand corner of your screen. A device list will appear.
Note: if you are seeing a message reading "No devices available", then we recommend double checking to ensure both your mobile or tablet device and Chromecast device are connected to the same network.
Select your Chromecast device from the list of options.
The system will then automatically mirror or cast the content that you're watching on the SBS On Demand app onto your TV screen.
You will then see an image similar to the image below, once your device is ready to cast.
Select your program on your tablet or phone and start watching!
Trouble casting?
- Reboot your Chromecast device and ensure it's running on the latest firmware. You can check here.
- Ensure that your device and your television are on the same wifi network
- Ensure your device is running the latest available software - you can check this from settings > About device > System updates then tap > check for updates
- Delete the SBS On Demand app
- Power cycle your device, by turning it off for around 2 minutes
- Reinstall the SBS On Demand app once your device has turned back on
