How do I use Chromecast with the SBS On Demand App?

What is Chromecast? 

Google Chromecast is a unique device that plugs into any TV or monitor with an HDMI port.  With a Google Chromecast device, you can ‘cast’ content from your iOS or Android tablet or phone to your television.  

The SBS On Demand app is supported with the following Chromecast devices:

Second Gen;

Third Gen; and

Chromecast Ultra.

You’ll need to download the SBS On Demand app to use Chromecast and ensure that your television is on the same wifi network as your tablet or phone. 

Chromecast is available and supported on both the iOS and Android versions of the SBS On Demand app.  

 

iOS Device 

If you don’t have the SBS On Demand app on your iOS device, then you can download it for free from the iOS Apps Store.  

1. Navigate to the “Apps Store” on your home screen. Tap to open.
2. Click on the Search Tool icon in the bottom right-hand corner 
3. Type in “SBS On Demand” into the search bar 
4. Click on our app to bring up a program page with background information 
5. Click on “Install” to download our app.

Android Device 

Similarly, if you don’t have the SBS On Demand app on your Android device, then you can download it for free from the Google Play Store.  

1. Navigate to the “Google Play Store”.  Tap to open
2. Click on the Search Tool icon which is located in the top right-hand corner 
3. Type in “SBS On Demand” into the search bar 
4. Click on our app to bring up a program page with background information 
5. Click on “Install” to download the app.

How do I cast the SBS On Demand app?

Once you’ve installed our app on your iOS or Android device, all you have to do is open the SBS On Demand app and tap the Chromecast icon ('cast button') at the top right-hand side of the screen. Then select the corresponding device your Chromecast device is attached to. (E.g. TV). 

The system will then automatically cast or mirror whatever you want to watch on your SBS On Demand app straight onto your Television’s screen.

 

 

You'll see a screen similar to the below image, once your device is ready to cast:

 

 

Select your program on your tablet or phone and start watching!

 

Trouble casting?

• Reboot your Chromecast device and ensure it's running on the latest firmware. You can check here.
• Ensure that your device and your television are on the same wifi network
• Ensure your device is running the latest available software - you can check this from settings > About device > System updates then tap > check for updates 
• Delete the SBS On Demand app 
• Power cycle your device, by turning it off for around 2 minutes 
• Reinstall the SBS On Demand app once your device has turned back on
