If you see Playback Not Supported, the device, browser or app you’re using may not support the protected playback required for this program.
SBS On Demand is introducing content protection, known as Digital Rights Management (DRM), for some on demand programs. DRM helps protect content in line with the rights agreements SBS has with its distributors. It isn’t a problem with your home internet connection.
DRM settings vary by device and browser. Try the steps below, then select Try again.
What is DRM?
DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. It’s technology that helps protect programs from unauthorised copying and sharing.
If You’re Using Firefox
When you try to play a program, Firefox may show a message asking you to enable DRM. Select Enable DRM, then try the program again.
If you don’t see the message:
- Open Firefox Settings.
- Search for DRM.
- Tick Play DRM-controlled content.
- Restart Firefox and try again.
For more help, visit Mozilla’s guide to watching DRM content in Firefox.
If You’re Using Google Chrome
Check that Chrome allows protected content:
- Open Chrome Settings.
- Go to Privacy and security > Site settings > Additional content settings > Protected content.
- Allow sites to play protected content, if that option appears.
- Restart Chrome and try again.
You can also check Google’s guide to protected content settings.
If You’re Using Safari
Safari doesn’t have a separate DRM switch to turn on. Make sure macOS and Safari are up to date, then close and reopen Safari and try again.
If you’re watching on a Mac connected to an external display or TV via AirPlay or screen-sharing software, try playing the program on your Mac screen. Some external displays or connection setups may not support protected playback.
For more help, visit Apple Support.
If You're Using Edge
- Copy and paste edge://settings/content/protectedContent into Edge’s address bar, then press Enter.
- Turn on Allow sites to play protected content.
- If you still can’t play the program, also turn on Allow identifiers for protected content.
- Restart Edge and try the program again. If Edge asks you to restart your computer, do that too.
Watching on an external screen?
If you see a “Playback Blocked” message, your external screen or the way it’s connected may not support protected playback. The screen and connection need to support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection), a standard used to protect video while it’s being displayed.
Try watching on your computer screen instead. If you’re using an external screen, connect it directly with an HDMI cable and remove any docking station, hub or adapter. If the message continues, try another screen or contact us through the Help form.
