Manage Privacy Preferences
SBS collects user data on its digital services and website using cookies and other tracking technologies in order to serve you more tailored, relevant SBS content and advertising.
It also helps us understand what visitors do and do not use so that we can continuously improve our digital services.
There are two instances which the collection of data will vary as below:

If you are signed in:
If you are signed into your SBS account while using SBS services, your account registration and activity-based information may be used to enhance your experience and display more relevant personalised content and advertising. Any personally identifiable information (PII) such as your name or email address is anonymised and aggregated for use in personalised ads. Where this activity-based information is combined with the personal information associated with your account registration, we will treat it in accordance with our Privacy Policy. -
If you are not signed in:
We do not collect any personally identifiable information (PII) such as your name or email address unless you explicitly provide it to us. However, we may use non-PII activity-based information connected to cookies and device IDs to tailor your experience with SBS digital services.

Your preferences for Marketing and Advertising
Direct marketing
SBS may use your personal information to send you direct marketing communications about our activities and services if you have subscribed to SBS email newsletters. If you no longer wish to receive such communications, you can choose to opt out by:
- Logging-in to your SBS account to change your account settings and communication and subscription preferences.
- If you have received an email from SBS, there will be a link to opt out or unsubscribe contained in each of those emails.
Personalisation and advertising choices
If you do not want to receive personalised content recommendations or interest-based advertisements on SBS, you can follow the steps below to opt out. If you choose to opt out of interest-based advertising, this does not mean that you will not receive advertising on our sites and services, it just means that the advertising you see will be less relevant to you and your interests.
- You can opt out of advertisements served to you on SBS On Demand, Click here for Information on ads and ad preferences on SBS On Demand.
- You can also change your internet browser settings to remove, disable or block the use of cookie – please note that you may not be able to access all or parts of our websites, or experience reduced functionality.
- For iOS devices, you can opt out of interest-based advertisements on the SBS On Demand App through the App settings under “Advertising”. You can also decide whether to “Allow Tracking” by the SBS App through the iOS and SBS pop up prompts.
- For Android devices, you can opt out of interest-based advertisements on the SBS On Demand App through the App settings under “Advertising”.
- For Connected TVs, you may be able to opt out of interest-based advertisements on the SBS On Demand App on your TV through the App settings. Alternatively, your TV itself may have the functionality to disable interest-based advertisement depending on the brand and model. Please refer to your TV’s instruction manual for more information.

- You can adjust your Facebook advertising settings from within your Facebook account and opt-out of advertisements from within the Facebook application.

Please note that the opt outs above are browser and/or device-specific so if you access SBS websites and digital services through a number of devices, you will need to opt out on each of those devices.
Even if you have opted out of interest-based advertising, SBS and its trusted third party service providers may still collect data about you for the purposes of analytics and research. Also, the above opt outs may not stop all interest-based advertising being served on our sites and services, including by advertisers who may have obtained information about you from other sources.
Other options
You may delete your SBS account in your SBS account settings on the SBS website.
You have a right to access the personal information that SBS holds about you and you can request that we correct or update that personal information. You can contact us by submitting an online request here, or contact the SBS Privacy Officer.

Unsubscribe from Emails/Newsletters
SBS has a couple of ways you can unsubscribe from emails.
Your SBS On Demand Account Page:
- Log into your SBS On Demand account page and click settings, and scroll down to the section labelled ‘Newsletter Subscriptions’
SBS On Demand has the following options:
Please note that if you untick one box in within the category, you will still receive the emails that are ticked in the same category and therefore it will be sent from the same email account.
I.e. if you unselected News weekend under SBS News, but have the News Insight ticked, you will receive News Insight from the same email address (SBS News).
Unsubscribe button within the Email/newsletters
2. Click the unsubscribe button from the email and it will bring you to either of these pages:
Please remember to click Update to save these preferences.
Please make sure you click Unsubscribe - however please note this will only unsubscribe you from the newsletter content that your clicked on.
OR
You can click on the preferences page via the email and it will bring you to this page:
Please make sure you click Update in order to save your preferences.
Other
Please note that Gmail, outlook and other email addresses inbox does ask if you would like to unsubscribe emails from SBS, however this is not controlled by us.
Even though you have unsubscribed, SBS will only be sending notice emails such as to verify your account or any updates to our terms and policies. This is a legal requirement. Web-Based Cookies & Tracking Technologies
Why does SBS use Cookies and other tracking technologies on the SBS website and digital services?
SBS, and authorised service providers operating on SBS’s behalf, may collect information about your activity, or the activity on devices associated with you, on our sites, digital services, and applications using tracking technologies such as cookies, local storage, pixels, web server logs, and web beacons. The information collected by these technologies may include your IP address, geolocation data, and browser/device type or operating system, information about your activity on our websites or digital services, such as information about the website that your IP address has comes from, the pages accessed on our website, audio or video consumption, or advertisements viewed or clicked. SBS may collect this activity-based tracking information whether or not you are registered and/or logged in with your SBS account and may associate this tracking data with your SBS account (if you have one), in which case we will treat it in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
SBS uses these technologies, and the tracking information collected, in a variety of ways to improve our services and your experience when using our services. For example, these technologies help us to:
- Maintain, secure and improve our websites and digital services, for example detecting any problems with use of our websites or digital services;
- Enhance your experience when using our websites and digital services, including to display and deliver relevant services and personalised content recommendations and remembering your place in a video so you can continue to watch it across different devices;
- Display and deliver relevant interest-based advertising and marketing on the basis of broader audience segments;
- Understand the effectiveness of our marketing and advertising (including direct marketing and online ads on third party websites). For example, we receive information about the content users engage with or ignore, and manage the number and relevance of advertisements users are served.
SBS may need to make some data available to authorised third party service providers to do this, including through the use of tracking technologies. We require that these service providers have appropriate controls to protect your personal information in a manner that is consistent with our Privacy Policy and can only use the data for the purpose of providing these specific services to SBS.
SBS continuously reviews analytics requirements pertaining to our website and the use of trackers. SBS takes its audience privacy and security responsibilities seriously and we work with our partners to ensure that consistent and effective protection measures are in place for online audiences.
