As technology evolves, SBS On Demand periodically reviews its services to ensure we are providing the best possible experience for Australian viewers. This means making difficult decisions about which platforms we can continue to support.
Samsung 2015-2016 Televisions:
Unfortunately, Samsung televisions from 2013 to 2016 do not have the processing power to support the high-quality video streams SBS On Demand currently serves. As a result, playback issues were common, and it became difficult for us to deliver the optimum service on this platform. Due to these limitations, we made the decision to stop supporting these models. While the app will no longer be updated, you can still access SBS On Demand through alternative devices.
Sony Linux Televisions:
After careful consideration, we’ve made the decision to stop supporting the SBS On Demand app on Sony Linux operating system televisions. While the app will still be available for the time being, it will no longer receive updates or technical support, which means it will not offer the premium, curated experience available on supported devices.
Panasonic Televisions:
Similarly, Panasonic exited the Australian television market in 2020. As a result, SBS On Demand has made the decision to remove support for Panasonic televisions, effective March 1, 2025. After this date, the app will no longer receive updates, including bug fixes or improvements, and the experience will degrade over time.
Alternative Ways to Access SBS On Demand:
You can continue enjoying SBS On Demand without needing to purchase a new TV. Here are some ways to access the service on your existing television:
Chromecast with Google TV or Amazon Fire TV via the HDMI port on your TV.
Use a set-top box with SBS On Demand available on Google TV Streamer, Apple TV, Android TV, Fetch, Hubbl, or Foxtel iQ.
HDMI Cable: Connect your laptop or mobile device directly to your TV.
Chromecast from an iOS or Android device, or from the SBS On Demand website to your TV.
