As technology develops, we need to make tough calls on what devices we can maintain, so we can continue to invest in building and updating the SBS On Demand platform to provide as many Australians as possible with the best product we can.
Part of this means we regularly review the performance of each platform to ensure we're delivering an optimum service to customers, and the availability of apps and support for specific versions is contingent on ongoing support and updates from the operator.
The newest version of the SBS On Demand app will no longer be supported on Android TV devices running Android 8. By aligning our app with their latest standards, we can ensure it remains secure, fast, and reliable for the majority of our users.
If your device is running Android 8, we suggest checking if there are any Android version updates available specifically for your Android TV.

If there are no updates available for your Android TV, then please be assured that there are many other ways to continue accessing SBS On Demand on your existing television.
- Using the HDMI port on your TV, you can plug in a Chromecast with Google TV or Google TV Streamer device.
- Using the HDMI port on your TV, you can also plug in a set-top box with the SBS On Demand app available on Apple TV, Fetch, Hubbl and Foxtel iQ devices.
- You can plug your laptop or mobile device into your TV using a HDMI cable.
- You can also Chromecast from an iOS or Android device or from our website to your television.
Most Android 8 televisions have an in-built Chromecast. You will need to:
- Delete the SBS On Demand from your Android 8 TV first.
- Open the SBS On Demand app from an iOS or Android device or the SBS On Demand website.
- Start a video and select the Cast icon appearing in the top right hand corner of the video player.
- Your Android TV will appear in the "devices list" as long as they are connected to the same network.
- Select your Android TV and the program will then connect and mirror onto your TV within a couple of seconds.
