When streaming live events or video-on-demand (VOD) content on SBS On Demand, the video quality and bandwidth usage can vary based on the content and your device.
Live Events
Live-streams for major events including the Tour de France, Tour de France Femmes, La Vuelta a Espana and SBS channels are available in 1080p HD on the following supported devices:
- SBS On Demand website (via desktop browser)
- Samsung televisions 2017+
- LG televisions 2017+
- Hisense televisions 2018+
- iOS and Android applications
- Apple TV
- Set top boxes including: Foxtel iQ3, iQ4 & iQ5, Fetch and Hubbl TV (Glass and Puck)
Video On Demand (VOD) Content including: Movies, TV Series, Planet Luke Nguyen and SBS WorldWatch
Videos and replays of major events on SBS On Demand (VOD content) is currently streamed at 720p with an average bitrate of 2.5Mbps. The bitrate for different types of content varies, as follows:
- Low (432p): ~128Kb/sec
- Medium (576p): ~512Kb/sec
- High (720p): From 1.5Mb/sec to 2.5Mb/sec varies based on content
TV Broadcasts including: SBS, NITV, EURONEWS, FIFA+ and Audio Streams (e.g. SBS Chill and SBS PopAsia)
- Low (576p): ~1.5Mb/sec
- Medium (720p): ~2.5Mb/sec
- High (1080p): up to 4.5Mb/sec
Replays from Live TV
- Low (432p): ~1Mb/sec
- Medium (576p): ~1.5Mb/sec
- High (720p): up to 2.5Mb/sec
Bandwidth Considerations:
On some platforms, you might not have the option to restrict your stream to a specific bitrate. In these cases, you should expect to use up to 4.5Mbps (for high-quality 1080p streams).
