Amazon Fire Stick devices are currently experiencing some limitations in which English subtitles are not being displayed for LOTE (Language Other Than English) dialogue in some programs. Examples include: The Old Man, Safe Home & Paris Has Fallen.
Because of this limitation, no English subtitles are appearing when the character's speak in another language other then English (e.g. Arabic, Mandarin or a native language). This issue is intended to be directly addressed in future updates to these applications.
In the meantime, please see the below workarounds to enable English subtitles on your Amazon Fire TV.
- In the player, select the subtitle icon. This icon is located to the right of the "+15 icon".
- On the Subtitle menu, press on the down arrow on your remote and select: English (NOTE: the "English, CC" button will also show as being selected with a blue dot appearing. This is expected).
- Keep pressing on the down arrow on your remote to select OK.
English subtitles will then appear on your TV.
