The SBS On Demand app on Amazon Firesticks is currently experiencing some limitations where English subtitles are not displayed for dialogue in languages other than English (LOTE) in certain programs. Affected programs include: Safe Home, The Old Man, and Paris Has Fallen.
Because of this limitation, no English subtitles appear for non-English dialogue including: Arabic, Mandarin or a native language. This issue will be rectified in future updates to this application.
In the meantime, please see the steps below to enable English subtitles on your Amazon Fire TV. In the video player:
- Select the "subtitle icon" to the right of the "+15 icon" on the player bar. A new subtitle menu will appear.
- Press on the down arrow on your Fire TV remote to highlight "English".
- Press OK on your remote. A blue dot will appear next to "English" and "English, CC" - this is the expected behaviour. You do not need to select "English, CC" separately.
Press the down arrow again and press OK to confirm and exit the menu.
The subtitle menu will close, and English subtitles will appear on your TV.
