As technology develops, from time to time we need to make tough calls on what services we can maintain, so we can continue to invest in building and updating the SBS On Demand platform to provide as many Australians as possible with the best product we can.
Unfortunately, given the range of devices out there today, that means we can’t be available on all of them and instead we focus on enhancing our products across the board, and on offering new and better services.
Samsung 2013- 2016 televisions are not currently providing our customers with the best streaming experience, as they do not have the processing power to support the video streams SBS On Demand is currently serving to our viewers. This meant we were unable to deliver an optimum service to our customers on this platform as playback issues were common and it’s difficult for us to fix them.
Although the app on your Samsung television is no longer supported, you can continue to access SBS On Demand using your existing TV or device in any of the following ways:
- You can plug your laptop or mobile device into your TV using an HDMI cable.
- You can Chromecast from an iOS or Android device, or from our website to your television;
- Using the HDMI port on your existing television, you can plug in an Amazon Fire TV Stick or Google TV
- You can use a set-top box with the SBS On Demand app available across Apple TV, Android TV, Fetch, Hubbl or Foxtel iQ.
- The SBS On Demand app is also available to download on Samsung, LG and Hisense smart televisions from 2017 and later, and televisions with an OS of Android 9 or later.
