The SBS On Demand app on Amazon Fire TV is changing. The app will be updated to align with the user experience across other platforms, including the SBS On Demand website, Connected TVs, Android and Google TVs, and mobile applications.
Here's what to expect:
A simplified sign-in and account creation process with the introduction of QR codes:
Logging in is now quicker and easier. Instead of entering your email and password on the TV, you can use your mobile device by scanning a QR code. You can also continue to sign in manually using your remote if you prefer.
Click here for login instructions using the QR code.
An improved interface
The app has a fresh new look to simplify navigation. The previous “Featured” tab has been renamed “Home,” and new sections for News, Sport, and Collections have been added.
New detail and programming pages, including in-app messaging that alerts you when the next episode of a series is dropping.
A dedicated live-channel destination
A central hub which includes details on all live and upcoming programs across the main SBS channels.
Search
An updated search function allowing you to search by title, cast, language and collection titles.
Rebuilt player
New audio and simplified subtitle selection controls: navigate to the "Audio and Subtitles" icon to bring up closed captions and enable audio description (when available).
New ways to fast-forward and rewind our content.
A detailed guide with instructions and illustrations on the new "Restart" and "Next Episode" buttons and how to fast-forward and rewind in our new app can be found here.
Favourites
You can find all your favourites via the main menu on the left-hand side under the heart icon 🖤 for favourites.
To add more programs to your favourites, just select the heart option within the program page. The heart icon will change from grey to white to indicate that the program has been successfully added.
To remove a program, simply select the heart again, and the heart will turn grey. A grey heart means the program is no longer in your Favourites List.
Remove program from Continue Watching
Your "Continue Watching" row will now appear on the Home page of the SBS On Demand app, roughly 3 to 4 rows down.
To remove a program from your Continue Watching List, all you have to do is:
- Navigate to your Continue Watching List on the Home page of the SBS On Demand app.
- Select the program you want to remove by pressing and holding the OK or Centre button on your TV's remote. A new sub menu will appear asking if you want to "Remove - program name?"
- Select "Remove" and the program will disappear from your Continue Watching List.
